Memorial Day is one of those holidays that kind of creeps up on you. We see Memorial Day as the official beginning to the summer, but we also recognize Memorial Day as the day to remember those who have died while serving our country in the military.
We think Memorial Day should be recognized much more than it is each year. Everyone should stop on that day and acknowledge the many men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Lone Star Park does a great job of incorporating the meaning of the Day into their annual Memorial Day festivities.

July 4th is one of my favorite holidays of the year. It’s a fun time, wherever you decide to celebrate.
It’s a good thing that there are so many July 4th celebrations across North Texas, because everyone enjoys a great fireworks display.
Denton
Don’t miss the 39th Annual 4th of July Fireworks show sponsored by the Denton Kiwanis Club. Admission is free; gates open at 5:30 p.m. with activities for the entire family including bounce houses for the kids, concessions and live music. Fireworks begin at dusk at the University of North Texas Fouts Field, Denton, TX.
Dallas
Fair Park – The event will include free admission to the park with food, music, fun and fireworks at the Fair. Fireworks begin at9:30 p.m. Live radio simulcast on 98.7 K-LUV. Dallas Wind Symphony concert at 8:30 p.m. Concessions on sale at 6 p.m. Dancing Water Shows in Fair Park’s Esplanade throughout the day.
Flower Mound
The annual Independence Day Fireworks Extravaganza is an all day free family event at Bakersfield Park. It starts with a parade at 11 a.m. at LISD admin building. Gates open at 7 p.m. with concessions, kid’s activities including a bounce house, giant slide, obstacle course, rock wall and face painting. Grand Funk Railroad will play from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
Fort Worth
On the Trinity River bank behind LaGrave Field on North Main Street. Free live music and family activities. Vendors will offer food, cold drinks, beer and ice cream. Water and watermelon will be provided. Live country music from 92.1. Fort Worth’s Fourth guests can watch the game from levee lawn seats for $5 per person. Fireworks start at 9:30.
Also, the Fort Worth Symphony presents Concerts in the Garden with an “Old Fashioned Family Fireworks Picnic.” It’s an evening filled with patriotic songs, heart-pounding marches, and one of the best fireworks displays in the area. This display is at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.
Grapevine
28th Annual Fireworks Extravaganza. Be prepared to be astonished by the fireworks spectacular, which can be viewed from any lakeside location as well as several other spots throughout Grapevine. Admission is free at most viewing locations. Some parks along Lake Grapevine may charge a minimal admission fee.
Plano
There is a patriotic concert on Sunday, July 3. On Monday, July 4, enjoy the morning parade, afternoon concert and evening fireworks. Parking is available at Plano Centre, Collin College and First United Methodist Church Plano. Listen to the fireworks simulcast music on KLAK 97.5 FM from home or in the park.
There are so many events, you can attend a different one every year! Save some of your summer for a few RV trips though. Stop in at Vogt RV for all of your RV needs.

I enjoy reading all the different blogs out there that are written by RVers on the go. They have great stories about the places they’ve been and the people they meet. Whether they have a motorhome or a travel trailer, they travel all over the world. It’s fun to read about their adventures because I can easily relate to it all.
These two women spent part of February and March traveling the southwest in a vintage motorhome, in search of special objects for their antique business in Cashmere, Washington.
Longtime friends Peggy Littlefieldand Harley Bratrude aren’t exactly Thelma and Louise, however they were armed (with an antique six-shooter) when we crossed trails in west Texas, just south of Pecos.
They met through a book club and soon discovered mutual interests in cooking, good martinis, scrabble and antiques.
They travel in a 1983 33-foot Vogue II gasoline motor coach.
Owned by the Littlefields, Peggy found it on Craig’s List and convinced her husband, Brad, to go look at it. They “own the very first Airstream motor home built,” however, it is a 23-foot unit and they needed something larger to travel in.
They came extremely well equipped with standard dual air conditioning, and a 50 amp power system with matching 6.2 generator set, according to Brad. “It was equipped with hydraulic leveling system, large tanks for waste and fresh water, and two 4D batteries for the house and one for the chassis.”
It had also been equipped with a GV overdrive, Mark VI 454 and a solar system to keep the four golf cart batteries up on their charge, said Brad. “All the systems work very well, and the coach runs like a Swiss watch.” What do these ladies set out to achieve? They seek out great regional food and western relics as they move across the Lone Star State–from Houston and Galveston to San Antonio and Austin … then through the Hill Country and west Texas. Meander a while in New Mexico and Arizona before taking separate trails in Tucson. Peggy to be joined by her husband for their slow return trip home to Wenatchee, Wash., and Harley to visit friends in southeast Arizona before heading north. [Women RVers]
I know several ladies who would be completely happy on a mission like this. Antiques seem to be a popular hobby for many people, and throw in the RV lifestyle and it ‘s a great fit. I know I myself am very interested in this.

Professional auto racing will return to north Texas June 7-9, 2012.
Texas Motor Speedway, located north of Fort Worth on I-35, is host to the IndyCar Series Firestone 550 on Saturday, June 9 at 7 pm.
The race lasts 228 laps around the track. On Thursday, June 7th, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series qualifying days starts at 6 pm.
The Winstar World Casino 400 begin at 8 pm on Friday. There are events going on all weekend long, just look at this schedule.
As a special treat the Global Rallycross Final Qualifier For the X Games will be held on this weekend on the afternoon of Saturday, June 9th.
The inaugural Hoon Kaboom Texas will serve as the final qualifier to earn automatic berths for X Games Los Angeles 2012.
The top-12 drivers in the Global Rallycross Championship points following Hoon Kaboom Texas at Texas Motor Speedway will secure automatic berths for the X Games Los Angeles 2012, which is scheduled for June 28-July 1. Hoon Kaboom Texas is expected to be a pivotal event for the entire GRC field since the automatic berths will be based off just two races – the one at Texas Motor Speedway and the season-opening event set for May 26 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
